Let’s Goat Rescue is a long term animal sanctuary that provides a home for goats and other livestock that are at-risk and have been deemed unfit for production farming. Our Care Farm programming promotes the healthy interconnection of people, animals and Nature… to benefit all three!

CARE FARM VALUES

  • Sanctuary

    >>We provide safe and comfortable care and housing for “throw-away” goats and other at-risk livestock like donkeys, chickens, ducks and more!

    >>We demonstrate respect for animals and the earth in all care methods.

    >>We inspire others to be stewards of discarded livestock, and innovators in sustainable agriculture.

  • Inclusion

    >>We strive to make our space more accessible to people of all backgrounds and abilities by recognizing and removing barriers to engagement.

    >>We search out multiple perspectives on issues and consider multiple stakeholder interests.

    >>We promote meaningful farm work with animals and nature as a positive support for human health and mental health.

  • Regenerative Agriculture

    >>We strive for sustainability, addressing climate change adaptation in what we do and how we share our practice with visitors.

    >>We allow rescued goats to engage in regenerative grazing whenever possible.

    >>We establish protocols for sustainable farm practices that create valuable learning opportunities for people, while also resulting in soil improvement and native growth.

  • Education

    >>We invite others to join us in caring for our animals and our land using regenerative methods.

    >>We follow a stewardship plan that articulates to learners how we make decisions about animal care and environmental conservation.

    >>We recognize and teach others about how meaningful work with animals and nature can support human health/mental health.

The Goats

Full of personality…but never full!! Most of our goats have come to our sanctuary because they have been rescued from an unsafe situation, or because they have been “retired” from production farming. (Many of them have unique concerns like an injury or illness that would make their survival impossible on a production farm.) Our sanctuary offers them a second chance at life! Some of our goats enjoy taking trips to graze with Let’s Goat Buffalo as regenerative grazers, and others are more content to stay on the farm where they rest and enjoy plenty of attention from visitors and volunteers.

The Donkeys

Our (ultra handsome) donkeys, Wayne and Diesel, came to us through Whispering River Rescue, the only donkey sanctuary in Western New York. These sweet beasts were pulled from a kill-pen in the southern United States as a bonded pair, so they needed to find a home where they could stay together. Because these boys are very smart and love people, they also need a space where they can interact regularly with visitors to play and work in order to be healthy and mentally strong. One benefit of having donkeys at our sanctuary is that they are vocal about their space, warning Coyotes and Fox not to hang around the farm. Goats become very quiet as a prey animal, but donkeys will bray and stomp, allowing predators to understand that our sanctuary is not a source for a meal.

The Chickens

Meet our Charming Rooster, Bob, and his 6 lovely lady friends! Bob is a dapper dude who struts his stuff with pride. While he is always looking out for his flock, he is very friendly and will not chase after our human visitors. The girls are a noisy but sweet bunch who seem to enjoy displaying their very unique personalities- you’ll quickly find a favorite! Our flock came to us through the Erie County SPCA, after being removed from an unsafe situation. We are thrilled to host these amazing avian friends, as they play a huge role in keeping the farm healthy. Chickens eat slugs, snails and other insects that carry parasites that make goats and other mammals ill, while returning healthy nutrients to our soil. Healthy soil grows healthy food!

The Pig

Meet “Mr. Pig,” the newest resident at the farm! Mr. Pig was found wandering along Buffalo’s waterfront on a busy summer day. Dedicated community members took the time and care to get him to a safe place, but unfortunately, when farm animals are found within city limits and have no immediate housing available to them, they are put down. Our friends at the SPCA didn’t have a stall available, so they reached out to us for foster help. Mr. Pig very quickly made himself at home, bonding with our farm dog and just about everyone he met! He is such a sweet smart guy who loves his treats and daily walks around the sanctuary. Mr. Pig helps the farm by gobbling up our veggie scraps, naturally “tilling” up our soils, and keeping smiles on faces 24-7!
